On-Page SEO

On-page SEO that makes every page earn its place

Most sites do not have a content problem — they have a mapping problem. Six pages half-target the same keyword, titles describe the company instead of the query, and the page that should rank is three clicks deep with no internal links pointing at it.

The short version

What On-Page SEO actually does

On-page SEO is the discipline of making the relationship between a search query and a page unambiguous. Google needs to understand what a page is for, be able to reach it easily, and see that it answers the question more completely than the alternatives. When those three things are true, on-page work produces some of the fastest and most durable gains available in SEO.

We start with a map, not a keyword list. Every commercial and informational query worth targeting is assigned to exactly one page. Where two pages compete, we consolidate, differentiate or redirect. Only then do we touch titles, headings and copy — because rewriting a page that is competing with itself just moves the problem around.

Scope

What is included every month

Six workstreams, each with defined outputs. Nothing here is a placeholder line item.

Keyword & intent mapping

Every target query researched for volume, difficulty and — critically — intent, then assigned to one page. You receive the mapping document as a spreadsheet you own: query, intent type, assigned URL, current position and priority. This single artefact usually reveals more than any audit section.

Cannibalisation audit & consolidation

We identify pages competing for the same query using Search Console query-to-page data, then consolidate the weaker into the stronger with 301s, differentiate them by intent, or noindex what has no purpose. Consolidation frequently produces immediate ranking gains without any new content.

Title, meta & heading rewrites

Titles written for the query and the click, meta descriptions that earn the click rather than repeat the title, and a heading hierarchy that mirrors how the page is actually structured. We prioritise by impressions, so the pages already close to ranking get attention first.

Content depth & entity coverage

We analyse what the top-ranking pages cover that yours does not — subtopics, questions, entities, comparison tables, specifications — and expand the page to be genuinely more useful. Depth, not word count: we routinely cut bloated pages while improving their rankings.

Internal link architecture

Your most valuable pages should be the easiest to reach. We build a hub-and-spoke structure with contextual links from supporting content, fix orphan pages, reduce click depth on money pages and rewrite anchor text to be descriptive rather than “click here”.

On-page schema

Article, FAQ, HowTo, Service, Breadcrumb and Organization markup implemented and validated, so your pages are eligible for the rich results that lift click-through in competitive SERPs.

FAQs

On-Page SEO questions, answered

No. Keyword density has not been a meaningful ranking factor for over a decade, and keyword stuffing actively hurts. Modern on-page work is about intent match (does this page answer this query), completeness (does it cover what the searcher needs), structure (can Google and readers parse it) and internal support (do other pages vouch for it). Sometimes the correct on-page fix is deleting half the copy.

Typically six to ten substantive rewrites, or more where changes are template-level. Template changes are the highest leverage: one fix to a product template can affect thousands of URLs. We always sequence by opportunity — pages sitting in positions 5 to 15 with real impression volume move fastest.

Yes. We build a brief per page including voice notes, then a writer with subject-matter familiarity drafts it and your team reviews before publication. Nothing goes live without your approval, and we never publish unreviewed AI output.

Cannibalisation happens when multiple pages target the same query, so Google has to choose — and often chooses the weaker one, or rotates between them. The quickest check: in Search Console, open a query in the Performance report and look at the Pages tab. If three URLs share impressions for the same query, you have cannibalisation. It is one of the most common and most fixable problems we find.

Google rewrites titles roughly 20 to 30% of the time in our experience, usually when the title is stuffed, too long, or ignores the on-page H1. A well-written, appropriately sized title that matches the H1 is far more likely to be kept — and even when rewritten, your title is the primary input Google uses.
